The "Main Event" Jey Uso will attempt to dethrone Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, the most dominant champion of the current era.
Reigns was forced to attend Tribal Court live from SmackDown
at Madison Square Garden after the historic match, but he set up a trap that
saw him and Sikoa attack both The Usos and make Jimmy leave the arena in an
ambulance.
The history of Jey and Reigns is extremely convoluted. Jey
teamed up with The Head of the Table and started competing at a higher level
right after the cousins fought for the Universal Championship in 2020. After
Jimmy's comeback, The Usos significantly contributed to The Bloodline's
continued domination, going on an unprecedented run as Undisputed WWE Tag Team
Champions and supporting Reigns in multiple title match victories.
But due to Reigns' aggressive actions, Jey and Jimmy
eventually departed and brought down the dominating faction with them. The same
night Jimmy was removed from The World's Most Famous Arena, Jey made his way
back through the crowd and ambushed Reigns and his younger brother Solo with a
steel chair before challenging his cousin to a title fight. The following week,
while Roman was away, Jey carried out a second brutal assault, this time on
Solo and Special Council Paul Heyman.
The match was set on the SmackDown program on July 21,
2023, when Reigns made an appearance and threatened to lose his Tribal Chiefdom
as well.
Will Jey Uso successfully pin Roman Reigns one more to put a stop to the greatest title reign in modern history? Find out at SummerSlam on Saturday.
